There are many things to do and see on the beautiful island of Kauai and there’s no better way to get there than with a moped or scooter out on the open road. The entire Kauai Mopeds ohana are avid riders with a love for Kauai’s beauty and a passion for the open road.

Find us in Lihue, Kaua'i with our mopeds out front. Chances are, we’re out riding them!!! We love to ride and what better place than the beautiful island of Kauai. You can take in breathtaking views not only at every stop but throughout the entire ride and get close to the nature that is all over Kauai and not just at the destination. You’ll truly start to understand and really appreciate what its like to be on this island when you’re not boxed up in a car anxiously waiting to just “hurry up and get there.” The ride itself becomes a part of your experience on Kauai.

Ask any local what they love to do on Kauai and the most common (or I should say, honest) answer you’ll hear is, “cruise.” Locals like to cruise at the beach, with friends somewhere, or cruise all over the island. Locals enjoy the island’s offerings by just being there to take it all in. This island is our home and playground, BUT, it takes a lot of gas to drive all over the place and nowadays gas (and everything else on the island) is expensive! But locals still gotta cruise…and mopeds were our perfect solution! We (Rus and Tracy) both grew up on the island and have been “cruising” on Kauai our whole lives. Our long relationship with Kauai has formed a deep appreciation and love for the island and now a short errand ride or ride to work quickly reminds us of how special our home is.

Kauai Motorcycle RentalsRustan Souza

My name is Rustan and I always considered myself blessed to be born and raised on Kauai. As an island keiki I have so many memories of swimming and playing on Kauai's pristine beaches and secluded mountain streams. Riding 2 wheels has always been part of my life. My father is an ex-pro motocross rider and as a child I remember looking at all the motorcross trophies and motorycycle parts lying around the house and thinking, "Wow, someday I want to be a motorycycle rider too." I remember my first ride up into the mountains, I was hooked. I've been on 2-wheels ever since. Another passion of mine is instructing. As a former Assistant Chief flight instructor, I was very, very passionate about teaching people to fly airplanes. But my love for Kauai and riding brought me back home to open up Kauai Mopeds. I consider myself even more blessed now that I am able to share with others the island I grew to love and my passion for riding.

Kauai ActivitiesTracy Ogihara

Born and raised on Kauai and moved to Oahu after high school to get my college degree. While on Oahu I worked in customer service at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki and graduated from Chaminade University in Honolulu with a BA in Environmental Studies. Aside from school and working, Rustan and I also started our first company, Greencarts. We were able to help Chaminade University and Honolulu Community College convert a couple of their golf carts to go green by adding a "solar golf cart top". Although we enjoyed our independent living on Oahu, Rustan and I were given a great opportunity to move back home to Kauai to be with the rest of our family. Living on Kauai was something that we always wanted. I don't come from generations of riders like Rustan so I never thought that I would move back home to start a moped business but now I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing. I get to live on the most beautiful place I know of and get to utilize all my skills I learned while going to school, working at the Hyatt, and Greencarts. Like Rustan, I feel so blessed to be able to share this island that I grew up loving.

Kauai Moped Testominals

“Absolutely better than any shuttle or tour that you can find and the best $75 spent on the island!”

Scooter? Moped? What’s the difference?

Mopeds are commonly referred to as scooters.  However, these two  vehicles are classified and regulated very differently.  There are four main differences between a moped and scooter:  classification, requirements, vehicle speed, and carrying capacity.

About Us

When people first see our two-wheeled rentals, they commonly refer to both type of vehicles as “scooters.”  One being just a little larger than the other.  However, they are entirely different.  Mopeds are 49cc vehicles and one only person is allowed on the moped.  You only need a valid drivers license and be at least 18 years old to operate.  So the thing you see everyone  zipping around on is most likely a moped, not a scooter.  A scooter is entirely different, they are classified as a motorcycle and you may seat two people.  A motorcycle license is required and you must be at least 21 years old to rent a scooter.
